I discovered the power of reading at a very young age. Being tagged as an introvert most part of my life, there was something I longed for, something to which I could fully open myself. In 2002, I got my hands on Penguin’s Best Indian Short Stories and then there was no looking back. The yellow pages of the book, was a whole new world to me. A world that enchanted me, a world that accepted me with open arms. A place that gave me selflessly.
I remember in my school when somebody had his/her birthday they were asked to speak in the school assembly, what they wanted to become?
I never got that chance because I had my birthday in summer vacations. But this question amused me. After knowing the power of reading, I knew I could never answer that question. Because books thought me I could be anything, any character. They thought me I could live many lives and visit any place. I could be anything- whatever I want it to be.
“Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book.“
– John Green
P.S. 1. Do you love reading? What is your favourite book?
2. If you do, then let me tell you. Me and my friend not only read books but also write about them in our blog Minireads.
3. Don’t ask what is Sakajokovia (It is a personal code word only for my amusement) 😛
